Hello it's me

Hi, my name is Hannah Rorke. I'm Artist from South Africa. I write and travel in my spare when I'm not busy sketching.

I grew up in a very small town in the middle of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. You could kind of consider it for remote living. My family has always enjoyed living on the edge of nature.

It made me stand out from the rest of the kids as I began traveling to other remote towns around South Africa and then traveling the world. My travel journey started when I was 8 months old where I took a 17 hour flight to America. Since then I have been to 18 countries.

While traveling I learned about world culture that other kids new nothing about. They also noticed that I talked weird. I would miss sentences and misspell words that seemed obvious to them but every time I had to relearn it.  I had been diagnosed with Dyslexia which made it harder to fit in.

Since I wasn't fitting in I had to survive the bullies. I found that I could create stories in my head while paying attention. The bullies started getting bored when I was no longer focused on them.  Someone told me I should write the stories down. That is how I became a Writer.

When I was 20 I took a gap year and went around the world. I started getting noticed for my travel to remote and non- tourist places.
My top 3 favorite countries would be Iceland, Mauritius and Italy.

My love of world culture led me to study Classical Studies and Ancient Near Eastern Culture at the University of South Africa. I now have a bachelor of Arts degree these subjects.

Recently I started my art journey to express myself during the hard time of the pandemic. I first started with designing small patterns which took a turn to landscapes when I drew trees and started basic sketching courses.  I am self-taught just attending the odd art workshop.

Now I have done four exhibits and on my third one gave an art talk with a crowd. Now I'm up in my local art museum where I used to go to on outings for school.

Recently I was diagnosed with Autism. My neurodiversity has made me more confident since now I can understand myself more. There  are now no more unanswered questions about why I never fitted in school.

Now I can continue my journey from a small town in the middle of South Africa.

Never give up, you can see the world and find yourself along the way.

Love Hannah Rorke
